I have been writing and painting since I was seven when my parents emigrated from Romania to the United States. At the time, American visas were not easily granted, which required me to wait in Romania and live with my grandparents in a village for three years until I could be reunited with my mom and dad. While away from them, I started writing them letters, drawing, and painting. Soon enough I started writing short stories and expanding my imagination to fill the time. Village life was challenging and lonely because I did not have a lot of friends, but I had a lot of fun working to farm with my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. By the time I left the small village, I developed skills I would have never picked up in the city.
Moving to America came with its own set of problems, including learning English and finding my place to fit in. Eventually things fell into place because I found my solace in creativity. Once I learned the new language, I started writing short stories and poetry. In high school, I became an editor for the school paper and immersed myself into art classes. I graduated college with a degree in English and Psychology with the intention to have a more “practical” career, but ended up making a full circle and starting an art brand called Just Enough Faith featuring my art pieces. Now, I work as a freelance writer, artist, and songwriter.
I am a storyteller. I use many different mediums to tell stories, such as writing, photography, and painting. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I am inspired by stories, books, other artists, and connecting to my Jewish background. As someone who was not raised religiously Jewish, I came to practice and study Judaism on my own. I am inspired by stories, books, other artists, and connecting to my Jewish background. As someone who was not raised religiously Jewish, I came to practice and study Judaism on my own. Weaving my spiritual journey and my artwork has helped me push past many obstacles and root myself in faith, emunah. Essentially, this deep connection to Am Yisrael Chai (the people of Israel) and my own exploration of self concept connected me to the creator and established my own identity as a creative. Though my art does not have to be religious, I have a deep connection to faith because it nourishes my neshama (my soul). Exploring who I am gives me the perseverance and resilience to encourage others to follow their dreams and lead with love in their creative and life pursuits. In doing so, my intention is to work towards building bridges amongst people who can connect with the idea that “love conquers all fears” and is a “shield against fear.” When we lead with love, incredible gifts are bestowed upon us and we can lay a foundation for cultivating peace and compassion using the creative outlets of storytelling. Sometimes we can tell these stories through words, poems, songs, short stories, features, images, or even movies. Whatever medium I choose to tell stories, I am most inspired by connection, humanity, and the similarities between people and cultures.
When we struggle to find ways to connect we need ways to find happiness, joy, laughter, and ways to be encouraged. Oftentimes society, media, and social media, tend to highlight the chaos of our world. When negativity is overwhelming, it is crucial to look for a lifeline, for a lighthouse, for compassion, kindness, and love to propel us forward.
As for me, I look for people, places, and things to help me heal or recycle trauma into triumph.
